Athletics:
1) Good luck to the Varsity Boys Basketball team as they play at Halifax West tonight at 6:30 pm in the first round of the playoffs.
2) Tryouts for the Field Hockey team will be held on Thursday and Friday this week at 3:30 pm in the gym.
3) Students interested in trying out for the badminton team are asked to sign up outside the gym by the end of this week.
4) Congrats to the Boys Hockey team on capturing the bronze medal at the Red Cup this past weekend.

Guidance:
*Attention Grade 12 students applying ST. FX University in the fall.  Do you want to be considered for Lockview's one school nomination for the Phillip J. Oland and J.P. McCarthy scholarships? Please express your interest to your Guidance Counsellor by Friday, Feb. 15th.

Band:
*A huge congratulations goes out to the 10 Lockview musicians who performed at Acadia University yesterday with the Nova Scotia Youth Wind Ensemble and Stadacona Band.  It was an excellent concert!

*There will be Percussion ensemble today at lunch.

*There will be pit band after school today until 5:30.

*There will be senior band after school tomorrow until 4:40.

*There will be pit band Wednesday after school until 4:30.

*There will be jazz band Thursday after school until 4:40.

Other:
*Acts for Aids is happening tomorrow. Buy your tickets in the forum at lunch, they’re $7.00.

*MADD East Hants is hosting a Prom Dress sale at the Enfield fire hall on February 23 from 10 am until 1pm. Dresses are $25.  Discounts are also available on Hair and nails and there will be dress alterations if needed.  One lucky girl will win her dress! Hope to see you there!

*The current grade 9 course selection meeting will be held tonight at 6:30pm.

*There will be an SAC Meeting tomorrow evening.

*Semester 2 Curriculum night – Due to the impending weather forecast for this week, Curriculum night will be postponed and held on Wednesday February 20 at 7:00pm.

*Grade 12 parking pass applications will be available at lunch time today.

*Prom committee will be doing matchmaker at lunch in the Forum for $3.

*There will be an AV meeting at lunch in Mr. Boudreau’s room, B111.

African Heritage Month:
*Richard Pierpoint was sold into slavery in 1760, at the age of 16. He took his surname from an English officer whom he served.

Pierpoint was freed after the American Revolution began, and served as a soldier on the British side. Afterwards, he settled in the Niagara region and suggested the formation of an all-black militia that would fight with the British during the War of 1812.

Pierpont retired to his farm in Garafraxa, Ont., and died there in 1838.
