Athletics:
1) Good luck to the Girls Hockey team as they begin play in the Regional Championships today at the BMO Centre.  The girls take on CPA at 10:00 am and Halifax West at 2 pm.

2) Field Hockey tryouts continue today at 3:30 pm in the gym.

3) Good luck to the Varsity Girls Basketball team as they host Sackville in the first round of the playoffs tonight at 6 pm.

4) There will be a brief meeting for the Curling team at the beginning of lunch in Room A102.

Guidance:
*The Lieutenant Governor’s Medal is awarded to two (2) Grade 11 students who show leadership, strong community and school involvement, and have commendable marks.  If you would like to nominate a Grade 11 student for this award, please forward their name to Mr. Blakeney by Friday, Feb. 21st, 2020 via e-mail at Jblakeney@hrce.ca.

Other:
*Remember to bring in sock for the student council sock drive. The A block class that bring in the most socks will get an ice cream party.

*Acts for Aids tickets will be on sale today and tomorrow at lunch.

*This week’s student salute goes to Mr. Stacey for his snazzy new hair cut.

*The Nova Scotia Scholastic Chess Association will be hosting a tournament on March 1. See the poster in the main office window for details.

*Just a reminder to students who had parking passes during first semester – please return this pass ASAP as we are moving to a different color pass for second semester and your first pass will not be valid.

Black History Month:
*Born in Annapolis Royal, Daurene Lewis was elected mayor of Annapolis Royal in 1984, making her the first female black mayor in Canada. In 1988 Lewis was the first black woman in Nova Scotia to run in a provincial election. In 2001 she became the first African Canadian senior administrator in the history of the Nova Scotia Community College.
