What is your “why”? What drives you to do this important work each day?

I love doing my work because I see how connections are lacking with our students. Connection to culture and to heritage. There are still so many false stigmas to overcome and so much education is still needed for students, faculty, and staff in the education system. I see the changes slowly happening and know that it needs to continue.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love when I see excitement and engagement from the students when I'm giving a teaching or talking about subjects from an Indigenous lens.

What would you most like families to know about the role of Student Support Workers in HRCE?

Student Support Workers work with all students, faculty, and staff in the school to better the relationships between all of us. We provide authentic perspectives, foster relationships, give a safe space, and connect our students to valuable resources which will build them up and create better futures for all of us.
