Athletics:
1) Good luck to the Curling team as they play in the Metro semi-final this morning at 9 am at the Mayflower. 

2) Congrats to the Girls Hockey team on finishing 2nd at the Regional tournament this week and qualifying for provincials next weekend at Park View.  Good luck to the girls as they compete in the Avon View tournament today.

3) Good luck to the Varsity Girls Basketball team as they play at CPA at 6:15 pm today in the Metro Consolation game with the winner earning a spot at Provincials.

4) Congrats to the Boys Hockey team on tying up their playoff series with Citadel after a 1-0 win yesterday.  Game 3 goes on Saturday at 7pm at the Civic Arena.

5) The Varsity Boys Basketball team are reminded to bring their uniforms to their final practice today for collection. 

Black History Month:
* Carrie Best, born in New Glasgow, NS was a Black Canadian journalist and social activist. In 1943 she confronted the racial segregation of the Roseland Theatre in New Glasgow by purchasing two tickets for the downstairs seating of the theatre and attempting to watch a film with her son. Both were arrested and fought the charges in an attempt to challenge the legal justification of the theatre's segregation. Their case was unsuccessful and they had to pay damages to Roseland's owners. However, the experience helped motivate Carrie Best to found The Clarion in 1946, the first black-owned and published Nova Scotia newspaper. It became an important voice in exposing racism and exploring the lives of Black Nova Scotians. In the first edition of The Clarion she broke the story of Viola Desmond who also challenged racial segregation at the Roseland Theatre and whose story became a milestone human rights case in Canada.
